Torres del Rio

This little town is probably not on many maps, but tomorrow I should pass through Logrono, and a hundred miles or so along my journey. It has been gorgeous walking. The road was mostly smooth and winding through verdant fields of wheat and barley as well as endless vineyards and olive groves. But it has been a really sad day for me as I had to make the decision to leave my camino friend and walking companion in Los Arcos. As I was becoming stronger each day, it was becoming more difficult for her. She had a very heavy pack which I encouraged her to lighten by sending things home. We have had a few short walking days already, and Nora felt she had to stop after only 14 km. She felt she had to be careful of her heart. I had to decide if I should stay with her as she encouraged me to go on. I knew if I were to have any hope of reaching my goal in the timeframe I have, I had to move on. I did so with a heavy heart. I wish I had a photo of her to share with you, but they are all on the camera. I forget to get out the Blackberry at the important moments! So, again the camino is like life. People come and go, and we must value the moments we have with them.

  3. First...is the color purple that the pic shows, the true color of the road? So spectacular. Second...you had a hard decision, but needed to do what was necessary for you to make completion of your goals. Guess that is what life is always about. Each decision leads us to the next moment of our life choices. So each decision has to be right, no matter what the consequences. And so goes each moment. Drink in the grandeur of it all from where you are in each moment. Thinking loving thoughts of you.

  4. Bev, Just think of what Nora gained from this. She didn't sit home in her comfortable chair and wish she had attempted such a challenge, she packed up, got on a plane and tried. She feels for her own health she needs to stop-her decision - a smart one. You feel to meet your goal you have to go on - your decision and the right one. I pray that your day tomorrow is a great one. Love and Prayers, Linda

  5. From the picture and your words of both compassion and inner strength, it appears you are now on the path that leads to spiritual beauty and awakening in realms beyond the skies, where the adventure of life is life, where the only moment is now. These words coming from me seem corny as Kansas but coming from your narrative and photo, it truly reinforces what Jim said: I too feel like I just had a quiet time with God.

  6. as my hero, the colonel would exclaim, "i say, what good form". so here is another pilgrim at heart, at least in spirit. Iam following your daily adventures with anticipation and somewhat envy. As my other hero says,"do take time to heal yourself and smell the roses."

  7. Travels and challenges are always lightened by friendship. I feel for you making that tough call. But I am sure more kindred spirits are to be found before the end of your camino. Love you mom. Nat

  8. I love this road. Looking down it, not seeing anything but dirt and flowers, not having a To Do list to get back to. Just tackling and loving the the dirt road. Can't imagine. Love your spirit Bev. Go get it!
