St. Jean Pied de Port-the Journey Begins
I arrived at the St Jean Pied de Port station and walked with a bunch of pilgrims into town, looking for the Pilgrims information place. I soon had my credential, a scallop shell, and a room. The town is ancient, but very lively. I have met an Italian woman and an Irishman who has ridden his bike from Holland. I was actually able to help some non-French speakers to be understood. It is a struggle to try to understand a foreign language constantly, but thrilling when you succeed. Tomorrow will be a tough day. Pray for good weather. Bon soir.

Glad you have made it to France, Bev. I look forward to monitoring your progress.
ReplyDeleteWhat an adventure - people in Kentucky want to know about the plane and train trip. They all think you are living 'out of the box'! Guess most don't know the real you.
ReplyDeleteGreat!, so glad to hear. Thanks for the post.
ReplyDeleteHey Beverly - tell us about getting out of Paris.

ReplyDeleteWOW! We are thrilled for you. Your Dad turned us on to the Blog. What you are doing makes me think of a recent favorite quote: "Your life is yours alone, rise up and live it." (Terry Goodkind)
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to reading more,

Wow mom--that is so like you to be looking out for others, even when you unsure of what to do. Sending you a thought hug right now. (((((hugggggg)))). love you, nat
ReplyDeleteBev...I'm thrilled you arrived safely, & have begun your sojourn! If I understood your post, what identifies you as a pilgrim is the scallop shell? I wonder what the equivalent of the scallop is in each of our daily walks with God? Remember the description of a pilgrimage as "the prayer of the feet"...Keep praying! I'm so proud of you, & wish I was going along with you. Have fun, but be careful...Jesus said, "Be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves." (Matthew 10:16b)
ReplyDeletep.s. You've inspired me to start blogging, too (http://everythingandthekitchensinktoo.blogspot.com)

Jim, the scallop shell is indeed a symbol of the Compostela pilgrim. I think they brought them back fron Finnesterre on the Atlantic as proof that they were there. Believe me, I have been praying, and I feel the prayers of others. It's the only way I could have made it up that mountain!
ReplyDeleteWow is all I can say. Today is the first day that I have been able to check on your progress. Even though I only know your face and not your heart I am so happy that you are getting this awesome opportunity. I wish you well and I look forward to reading about your progress.
